PRIDE, PASSION & PURPOSE!!!
"Our students are ROARing to success each and every day!"
Our vision is that all students meet or exceed grade level standards!
Dear Lafayette Family,
It is going to be another great year for Lafayette Elementary School. As we embrace the new year we also embrace new staff and students and welcome them to the Lafayette Family! We bid a sad farewell to Mrs. Azpeitia our 2nd grade Dual Immersion teacher, Mrs. Martineau one of our kindergarten CPA teachers and Mrs. Moore our Cotsen Mentor. Mrs. Martineau will be taking on the challenge of teaching a 2nd grade Literacy class and Mrs. Moore will be pursuing her Master’s degree. We wel come Mrs. Gibbons who will be teaching the kindergarten class and Mrs. Barba will be teaching our 4/5 combination class.
This year we are fully implementing the new Common Core State Stanadards . In preparation for this, lthe teachers and I participated in five CCSS site-based Module trainings. We also developed a team of Common Core Lead Teachers who attend grade level specific trainings at the District Level to help refine our instructional practices to align with the new expectancies of the CCSS and the Smarter Balance Assessments our students will be taking in 2014-2015. These will replace the California Standards Test (CST) . Last year, we also were a pilot school for the new Smarter Balance tests. These assessments will be taken on-line and so we are in the process of updating our lab to be prepared for 2014-2015 . Both the teachers and I have spent time this summer in more professional development and are enthusiastic about the refinements to instruction that we are making to better prepare students our students for college and career readiness.
Although we do not yet have our students’ CST scores for 2012-2013, I am pleased to provide some of the successes reflected in our Benchmark and Math Facts data from last year:
Benchmark Book Assessments (Reading)
Grade 1— Increase from 57-68% proficiency in Non-fiction reading levels
Grade 2—Increase from 58-64% in Non-fiction reading levels
Grade 5—Increase from 68-73% in Non-Fiction reading levels
Math Facts -School Goal 100% Proficiency

Grade 2– 96% Proficient in Addition and Subtraction
Grade 3—99% Proficient in Addition, 96% Subtraction, 87% Multiplication, 80% Division
Grade 4—100% Proficient in Addition, 99% Subtraction, 96% Multiplication, 95% Division
Grade 5– 100% Addition, 100% Subtraction, 98% Multiplication, 98% Division
We are proud of our children’s successes and will continue to strive for excellence in every curricular area.. We are partners in your child’s education and we welcome you to participate this year as a Volunteer In Public Schools (V.I.P.S.), join our Parent Booster Club, and come get information and give feedback at our SSC, ELAC and Coffee with the Principal meetings. We also hope to see all parents at our Pathway Parent Meeting on Monday, September 9th and at Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 18th. Both of these meetings provide excellent opportunities to learn more about your child’s instructional program and the expectancies for this school year.
Thank you for all that you do to support us as we collectively nurture our children’s development and deliver an enriching academic experience to every Lafayette Lion. I am looking forward to another rewarding year filled with success and increases in student achievement.
